Mic talks with Steven “Ven” Berez, lead vocalist and founder of Los Angeles’s own, Venrez. In their discussion Ven shares the story of the inception of the band and its evolution into its current line up. He also shares about the back to the roots way that the band recorded their newest full length album “Sell The Lie”. The band recorded the entire album in just matter of days using the tried and true method of recording the band live and tracking most all tracks at once, with the exception of vocals. Laced throughout the interview we feature several songs from “Sell The Lie”Including “Karma”, the title track “Sell The Lie”, a haunting cover of Steve Winwood’s “Can’t Find My Way Home”, and “My Only Light” (the c;ip featured in the beginning of the interview is “Melting”). Ven gives us a behind the scences look at their recent tour with Fuel and talks about their upcoming tour dates in June 2012 with the legendary shock-rocker, Alice Cooper. Their current tour schedule is listed below:
After the tours Venrez still has quite a bit going on throughout 2012. The band is already well into recording their next album and more tours are being planned as we speak. Listening to the album previous to the interview “Sell The Lie” while being reminecient of the kind of straight forward music that has always been great to listen to when you just want to rock, it also has traces of influences of great rock bands such as the Rolling Stones and Alice In Chains . In the end, the album sounds great and serves as a reminder that rock is alive and well in 2012.
