We feature tracks from their recent demo and share with us what is currently happening with the group, their past, and what’s coming in the near future for the group.

The group had plenty to say and we were treated to several tunes, performed live at the groups rehearsal facility. After also seeing them perform live, I can say that this band gives a great performance. If they perform in your area. I would recommend checking them out.

I Just Want To Be Able To... - 001 9/26/2010 - How To Download And Listen To Podcasts

I Just Want To Be Able To... - Episode# 001 9/26/2010 - How To Download And Listen To Podcasts

In this introductory episode we will be teaching you how to download and listen to a podcast. Being that all of our lessons will be released in podcast format, it seemed only logical to teach this topic on the very first episode of this show. It is our hope that computer savvy individuals will download this podcast and/or print the show notes of this episode and give it to someone that you know that could use some extra help learning how to use a computer, such as elderly parents, aunts, uncles, etc. You may even be able to use some of our lessons yourself as they will evolve to become more advanced and grow with our listeners ability. Once a subscription is set up, lessons will be automatically downloaded for use at a convenient time.

Show Notes:

Downloading a Podcast to your MP3 Player or PC…Made Easy (Windows)

This instruction set assumes that you are a PC user with only the most basic skills. Should this set of instructions be too simple, you can click here to view instructions for moderately skilled PC user.

Instructions:

 1. Make sure that you have everything that you need to download and listen to it on your PC or MP3 Player.

*   Functioning PC/Computer running Windows 2000, XP, Vista or Windows 7(PC, Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse) or Laptop Computer (Ideally Pentium 3 or above) with virus protection/security software

*  PC Speakers

*  Internet Connection (Preferably High-Speed)

*  MP3 Compatible Player w/data cable or iPod®

      Assuming that you have everything you need, let’s get started

   1. Turn on your PC and log-in to Windows. Then open the Internet Explorer browser (or alternatively Firefox, Google Chrome, Netscape, etc.)

You have a few choices on how you would like to get the podcast(s) you want to hear.

*  By individual download via the location of the podcast

*  By individual download via a program/podcast directory

*  By subscription via podcatcher program or podcast directory

*  By subscription via program (iTunes®, Zune®, Blackberry®, etc.)

   1. Locate the address bar (window near the menu) and type in the web address of the podcast you wish to download and press enter. Then locate the link for the podcast you wish to listen to.

If you wish to download a file from a website:

   1. In most cases, you can stream (play) a podcast right from the website if you only wish to hear it by clicking on the link to the podcast (the action should launch your media player or will play in the browser window. However, if you cannot listen to the podcast directly or if you wish to download it to listen to over and over again; hover your cursor over the link, right-click your mouse and then choose “Save Link As” or “Save Target As” then name your file if it is not named and choose the location that you want to save it to by clicking on the down arrow in the top window and choosing a location. (The most typical place to save the file would be in the “My Music” file located in “My Documents”). Then you may use a media player on your PC to listen to the podcast or use Windows Explorer or another program to transfer the files to an MP3 Player. Please follow the instructions from your particular MP3 player’s manufacturer to transfer files to the player.

If you wish to download or subscribe to a podcast on iTunes®:

   1. If you do not already have iTunes®, then open your internet browser program. Type in www.itunes.com or www.apple.com/itunes into the address window. When the site opens click on the “Download iTunes®” button. Please review the requirements for iTunes® to be able to run properly on your system before downloading the software.

The current requirements to run iTunes® 10.0.1 is stated below:

Windows Hardware

*  A PC with a 1GHz Intel or AMD processor

*  Intel Pentium D or faster processor is required to play Standard Definition video from the iTunes Store

*  2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or faster processor is required to play HD video, an iTunes LP, or iTunes Extras from the iTunes Store

*  512MB of RAM; 1GB is required to play HD video, an iTunes LP, or iTunes Extras

*  Screen resolution of 1024x768 or greater; 1280x800 or greater is required to play an iTunes LP or iTunes Extras

*  DirectX 9.0-compatible video card with 32MB of video RAM; 64MB recommended

*  QuickTime-compatible audio card

*  Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store

*  iTunes-compatible CD or DVD recorder to create audio CDs, MP3 CDs, or back-up CDs or DVDs

 Windows Software

*  Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, 32-bit editions of Windows Vista, or 32-bit editions of Windows 7

*  64-bit editions of Windows Vista or Windows 7 require the iTunes 64-bit installer

*  QuickTime 7.6.6 or later is required (included)

*  200MB of available disk space

*  Screen reader support requires Window-Eyes 7.1.1 or later; for information about accessibility in iTunes, visit http://www.apple.com/accessibility/

   1. Provided that your computer meets the specifications required to properly run iTunes®, enter your e-mail address (you can obtain a free e-mail address through many different providers online (recommended providers are Gmail (www.google.com), Yahoo Mail (www.yahoo.com), or Hotmail (www.msn.com) .

   2. Click on Download iTunes and follow any on screen directions to install it.

You may wonder if iTunes® will cost anything to use it. Most podcasts on iTunes are free. When registering iTunes® simply do not include any payment information if you do not wish to be charged for any downloads through the iTunes store. While most podcasts are free, iTunes® will charge for any music, movies, or media downloaded unless it is marked free. Bear in mind that iTunes® is a great way to get music videos, movies, tv shows etc. and their fees are reasonable but due to the format that ITunes® uses some media may require conversion to a different format before being used on any other portable media player besides the iPod®

   1. After installation you can choose the iTunes® store then click on “Podcasts” from the upper menu. You can either search by name via the search window or browse for Podcasts you wish to listen to. Then click on the image badge or title of the podcast you are interested in. If you wish to listen to your chosen Podcast on a regular basis I would suggest choosing “Subscribe”. This will automatically download the most recent episode of your chosen podcast into your “media library“ and will allow you the option of then opening up that particular podcast in the library and downloading all previous episodes as well so that you can listen to the entire series (be sure you have sufficient hard drive space to be able to store these episodes as well as future episodes and other Podcasts.  iTunes® also has the added advantage of  automatic syncing to any Apple® Ipod®, or iPhone® with relative ease to store your shows on your portable player as well. You can also view or listen to any media you download via iTunes media player directly from your computer.

   2. “Podcatcher programs are also a great way to subscribe to Podcasts and most provide great flexibility and performance. They also offer the advantage of “catching” the actual MP3 file a podcast is comprised of, which is more compatible with other MP3 players. These programs, however, require a little more experience to use due to the fact that they work directly with the actual RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds that distribute Podcasts on the internet. We will offer lessons and examples of how to do this on a future show as you skills become more advanced.

Thank you for joining us on this lesson. Please note that we will cover how to subscribe to RSS feeds directly and convert various files formats on future episodes

Please note that there is no affiliation between Microsoft, Zune, Apple, iTunes, BlackBerry, Google, Yahoo, MSN or any other entity mentioned in this lesson with the Audios Maximus Media Network or T. Mic.
