Welcome everyone to episide 11 of My Symphony Of Life! On this episode our featured guest is the author of This Means War. She’s an author of 14 young adults’ books. Here at My Symphony Of Life we enjoy reading all types of books and different genre’s.  We are defiantly a book worm family! If you have kids who in grades 5-8 they’ll enjoy this book. I had the pleasure to read This Means War. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I found myself reminiscing through my childhood. How many time’s when you were younger you’d state THIS MEANS WAR! Options: rock, paper, scissors, not it, let’s race. In this situation as the characters in this book went through girls are just as good as boys…even better and stronger! The challenge begins. Ellen take’s us through the battle of the sexes! Everyone stands behind the challenge and they find out it’s worth fighting for. It’s a wonderful book about growing up, finding out who they are, individually and working together in this challenge girls vs. boys…This means war! I found this book a great history tool as well as it takes you back to the year 1962 and this is set in the midst of the Cuban Missile Crisis. It’s a historical lesson during the period and its keeps kids wanting to learn more without bombarding them with dry historical facts. This is a must read book! This reaches students in which they can relate to on certain level. I encourage you to get this book and check out Ellen’s website at www.ellenwittlinger.com.  If you’re looking for a speaker for conferences, school visits or library engagements please contact Ellen Wittlinger. There are many things going on in the Baton Rouge and surrounding areas. Check out the calendar section. On this episode we have for you a journaling exercise for both adults and kids. Long before Eago hassled the birds, Jack Sparrow and Barbarosa pillaged the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, and you could find wild animals on Discovery Island instead of in a Kingdom. We made our first trip to the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. In this episode Kenny and I (T. Mic) share the humorous and interesting story of our first trip to the house of the mouse. We’ll take you on a virtual walk around the Magic Kingdom at the time and discuss rides and attractions that are no longer there to be enjoyed as well as the ones that are. We will discuss the differences in the park as we travel between the past and present and our perspectives on experiencing the park through the eyes of the children we were then and those treasured memories that last to this very day.

Long gone rides and attractions such as the Penny Arcade, the Mike Fink Keelboats & Canoes, the Magic Skyway, Mr. Toads Wild Ride and 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea are just a few of the attractions and rides we’ll discuss. So slap on those groovy bell bottom jeans and your best silk shirt (don’t forget that flashy neck chain) and hop in the Hornet with us as our family drives from south Louisiana to Florida to experience Walt Disney World for the first time. It’s time to Disco down to Disney…

Here’s a story for you. It is of a young boy’s trip to Florida in 1979. The first real vacation his family ever took and was it one to remember and I’d like to share some of our story as well as the stories of three of the attractions that we visited that year that are no longer there to be enjoyed. Hi! This is T. Mic and this Echoes of Laughter will be a little different. It is a trip down memory lane and not just any trip but my own.

To the 11 year old boy that I was in 1979, these places were wonders to me and my siblings at the time and they still hold a special place in my memory some 32 years later. My parents had taken our family to Florida that year on vacation. As a matter of fact, my family was a modest middle class family in the seventies and we had never really gone anywhere on a real vacation before except for a few overnight trips around our home state of Louisiana and a trip or two into Mississippi. This was our first real week long vacation and we were going to the Sunshine State for the first time!

In this episode we’ll explore the Stars Hall Of Fame and The Mystery Funhouse. Both were once located in Orlando Florida. One we visited on our trip, the other we did not, but oh how I wish we had. We’ll talk about both attractions that succumbed to a ever more competitive tourist market and what these wonderful smaller attractions once encompassed.  Put on your old bell bottom jeans, comb that mustache, and sport that dusty old silk shirt in the back of your closet…Were going back to 1979 and talking about more wax than you can shake a match at!

The Tour Bus Music Show - Episode# 18 6/26/2011 - Interview And Music With World Renowned Bassist Michael Manring

In every generation, there is one…or maybe two bassist that changes the rules and for that matter the whole concept of what can be done on and with a bass guitar. The late great Jaco Pastorius was one of the masters of bass guitar that expanded the world of bass guitar with his astounding ability and talent. However, it was his student that took the bass to new heights and along with Joe Zon designed one of the finest and most unique bass instruments on the planet…The Zon Hyperbass, Michaels’ signature instrument. With it he continues to stretch the very boundaries of the bassists’ realm.

Michael has had and continues to have an outstanding career having performed and collaborated with the very finest musicians in the world. He has performed every type of music from New Age to Rock and Jazz to Fusion. His solo work has been some of the most innovative music ever composed for bass guitar including a work entitled “ My Three Moons” off his album “Thonk” where he simultaneously plays three basses at once with remarkable prowess. We have included a link to the video of him performing this feat on our web site at www.audiosmaximus.com.

In this episode of the this episode of  The Tour Bus Music Show we sit down with Michael for an in depth interview where we discuss his career and experiences such as his friendship and collaboration the late acoustic guitar master and performer Michael Hedges. We’ll also get inside his head where he shares with us his unique perspective on the bass guitar, life in general and what helped contribute to making him the remarkable bassist he is today.

In a personal note, I am a bassist myself (T. Mic), Michael Manring has been one of my personal favorite bassists for many years and has had a profound influence on my own playing style. It was a privilege and honor to conduct this interview and I wish to extend my personal thanks to Michael Manring for taking the time out of his busy schedule to talk with me for this interview.

You can find out more information on Michael Manring and current dates for his concerts and clinics on at www.manthing.com.

The Tour Bus Music Show – Episode 17 Friday June 12, 2011 – Interview and Music with George Porter, Jr.

In this episode of The Tour Bus Music Show on the Tales From The Back Of The Bus we are going to get funky in an interview with New Orleans/Gonzales, LA based bassist extraordinaire ,George Porter, Jr. (www.georgeporterjr.com) (www.funkymeters.com), To say that we’re going to get funky in retrospect is not quite correct because it is hard to pigeon-hole a man of Mr. Porter, Jr.’s  talent into just one genre of music.

He has, in fact, not only is he a founding member of The world famous “Original” Meter’s but played just about every type of music there is on the side of some of the biggest names in the music industry as well as having as exception solo career as a vocalist, guitarist, and bassist in his own right. To say he is still in demand is to put it mildly. At 63 years young, George’s schedule performing with his four, mind you that’s four, primary bands, his “Solo” shows and all of the gigs he still performs with various other bands and artists would leave a younger bassist with his head spinning. He has recorded on to many albums to count with other great artists.

Busy? Yes – In Demand? Yes – Exceptionally Talented? A Resounding Yes – Someone You Need To See and Hear? Without A Doubt – On The Tour Bus? He is In The House!. Join us in a rare candid interview with George Porter, Jr. as we sit in the comfort of one of his beautiful home near the historic Houmas House Plantation and discuss his experiences of a lifetime playing all over the world as well as his beloved New Orleans with artists and bands such as The Meters, The Funky Meters, Dr. John, Irma Thomas, Professor Longhair, Robert Palmer, Patti LaBelle, Earl King, etc.

We’ll also play several songs of his during the course of the show. This will also be the first in our series of “The Bottom Line” shows where we will be featuring some of the finest bassist in the music industry and the world for that matter. You can look for upcoming shows that will be featuring Michael Manring, Tony Franklin, and many more outstanding bass players.

In this episode of The Tour Bus Music Show on the Tales From The Back Of The Bus Interview Segment we will be featuring Cardinal Collide, a 4 piece progressive rock band from Baton Rouge, Louisiana (http://www.reverbnation.com/cardinalcollide). We had the chance to catch up with the guys; James, Derek, David & Tweezy a few weeks ago in the midst of finishing up their new album, Ghosts Outside Your Window, and talked with them on a variety of topics.

It was a great interview that lasted over an hour and a half long. We went in-depth with the band into their songwriting process, personal experiences, the challenges and the triumphs they have faced in their time together.

Their music is inspiring and touching as the explore the human condition through their music and lyrics. In their live shows they come across powerfully and clearly and a performance that is just as enjoyable visually as it is audibly. Join us in hearing about this great band by listening to the podcast in it’s entirety as we explore the music, the people and the experience that is uniquely Cardinal Collide.
